Le Gray Beirut

A restrained brand alignment restoring coherence across a landmark hotel.

Brand Identity, Creative Direction, Environmental & Experience Design

Context

Le Gray Beirut is a centrally located boutique hotel with a strong original identity.
After several years of operation, the hotel closed temporarily for structural maintenance and renovation. During this period, the brand drifted across touchpoints, creating fragmentation and inconsistency in tone.
The opportunity was to restore alignment and continuity across the brand.

Role & Scope

I led the full brand realignment across the hotel, overseeing all branded touchpoints except the restaurants and public-facing website.

The focus was to restore consistency across physical, printed, digital, and experiential layers, and to establish a system that supports both immediate execution and long-term use.

Approach

The intervention was intentionally restrained. I studied how the brand had shifted over time. Repeated inconsistencies across small decisions had weakened the brand structure.

The work focused on realignment. Every decision was guided by three principles: clarity, longevity, and ease of use.

System Realignment

The internal logic of the brand was rebuilt before expanding across applications.

Hierarchy was clarified, typographic usage tightened, and unnecessary variation removed. The framework was designed to be understood, maintained, and extended across teams and contexts.

A new brand book was developed as a practical framework for consistency across teams, vendors, and future collaborators. The emphasis remained on structure, rules, and relationships.

Guest-facing materials were aligned to ensure clarity and continuity throughout the guest experience. Each touchpoint, from directories to transactional documents, reinforces the brand with quiet consistency.

Co-branding Considerations (Leading Hotels of the World)

As a member of Leading Hotels of the World, the system needed to operate within an established co-branding framework while preserving the hotel’s identity and voice.
Co-branding was treated as a structural layer within the brand architecture. Hierarchy and placement were defined to ensure clarity for both guests and operational teams.

The relationship remains measured and intentional. External affiliation is acknowledged where required, while the hotel’s identity remains coherent and uninterrupted. With the system established, its principles extended naturally into the physical environment.

Wayfinding & Environmental Systems

Signage was designed as part of the architectural language. Hierarchy, placement, and material behavior support intuitive navigation while preserving the hotel’s understated character.

Internal Digital Journey

In parallel with the physical environment, I designed the internal digital journey used by hotel guests throughout their stay.

Accessed via QR code, the system provides essential information, services, amenities, and contextual content, aligned visually and verbally with the on-property experience. The focus remained on clarity, accessibility, and continuity.

Outcome

The hotel regained a clear and unified identity. Nothing felt newly introduced, yet everything felt aligned. The result is a cohesive framework that supports both daily operations and future evolution.

Closing Reflection

This project reflects my approach to established brands: precision, restraint, and respect for what already exists.
